Thurmond Triathlon
About Us
Thurmond is one of those West Virginia places that history left behind in the best possible way — a near-ghost town on the New River with stone buildings, a historic depot, and the gorge closing in from both sides. The Thurmond Triathlon takes full advantage of it. Participants bike two miles out to Stonecliff, paddle 1.5 miles back down the New River (moving water, small whitewater to navigate), and run two miles through the heart of the town, crossing the bridge and finishing back at the start. Beginner-friendly format, multiple divisions, and set in a place most racers have never been. That combination is genuinely rare.
