The league is expanding its non-competitive programming — and heading to one of WV’s most spectacular outdoor counties to do it.

The West Virginia Interscholastic Cycling League has announced its 2026 Adventure Weekend, scheduled for July 25–26 at Sweet Water Farm Trail Center in Sugar Grove, Pendleton County. The event is part of WVICL’s NICA Adventure program, a non-competitive track that invites student-athletes to experience mountain biking through community, outdoor education, and skills development rather than racing. The partnership with Sweet Water Farm — a trail center in one of WV’s most rugged corners — reflects a deliberate effort to take the program beyond traditional race venues and into the backcountry terrain that defines the state.

The Adventure Weekend is an extension of WVICL’s broader mission, which positions mountain biking as a vehicle for youth development rather than just a sport. The league works with middle and high school students across 22 teams statewide, and its non-racing programs — including GRiT (Girls Riding Together) and Teen Trail Corps — are designed to reach students who might not engage with a competitive format. Hosting a program in Pendleton County, home to some of WV’s most remote and challenging terrain, is both a statement of ambition and a direct investment in rural outdoor access.
